This
is a body of work that was produced for the 2005 SMFA 5th year show.
They are tributes to DIY objects that i found to be interesting,
such as the Willem Kolff's dialysis machine or the foxhole radio.
Here is my statement from that show:
Obsolescence
interests me. I am intrigued with exploring methods (fresco, foxhole
radios, pirate radio) that have been outmoded. I am also
interested in tracing how these objects were initially developed.
By rebuilding each of these objects, I experience similar technical
problems that others had prior to me. I am inspired by those
who are both curious and steadfast because they can convert the
abstruse to the comprehensible. While most of these objects
have been deemed obsolesced, I find the devotion that inspired
their invention to be timeless.
